About Cherokee Hills

Cherokee Hills Romagnola, leader in gene diversity and quality Romagnola cattle for over two decades, has a brand new address and a fresh new vision….all with the same determination and enthusiasm as in the past. We are offering semen on a large number of imported and domestically raised fullblood bulls, a large number of first quality embryos, and of course, cattle from one of the largest and most genetically diverse herds of Romagnola in the world.

Romagnola Herd
Without question, the Romagnola cattle have proven their value to Mr. Laxton over and over again.

Carlton Laxton, CEO and owner of Cherokee Hills, has made it his goal to widen the number of seed stock breeders and commercial cattleman who can own Romagnola. More cattlemen and women will be given the opportunity to experience first hand the reasons how these cattle can make you money and improve the calves of commercial herds in both yield and quality of meat. He remembers learning about their unique carcass characteristics the first time he ate a fullblood steak. “It was the most lean, yet tender, flavorful, and juicy steak I have ever eaten. I was hooked from the first bite!” As the years passed, he experienced why other people who knew about the cattle were so enthusiastic about the breed. Since that time, he has compiled a massive amount of data on carcass, weights, fertility, longevity, hardiness, and other traits that position Romagnola as the top breed for improving lean beef quality.

Consistent Calf Crop

“For the commercial man, one of the most important things is a consistent calf crop,” Carlton says.

Carlton found they have the ability to thrive in both extremes of heat and cold, and can cover more ground than a horse. “Our breeding bulls stay fertile for years”, Carlton says, “and can outbreed and outlast any other breed of bull we have ever used,” which he says has been plenty. Then the crossbred Romagnola calves go to the feedlot and “continue to stay healthy and add more pounds in a shorter time”, he says. “I continually get feedback from our commercial bull buyers about easy calving, and how these calves go on to make the best gaining feedlot heifers and steers they have ever produced. They remark how well the cattle grade and yield, which translates into more money in their pocket. And that’s the bottom line! You won’t find a better bull than Romagnola that can produce more lean, tender muscle in calves, better feedlot steers, or outstanding carcasses.”

Cherokee Hills will be offering more cattle for sale this year than ever before. The next sale offering will be 12 noon, JUNE 5, 2010. “This sale is to get Romagnola cattle out to cattlemen and women to see for themselves what a difference Romagnola can make,” Carlton remarks. “We’re going to get these cattle out there, and are inviting our customers and friends to come by our new ranch location located on 400 acres of land situated on the banks of beautiful Kentucky Lake near Paris Landing, Tennessee. Come on by and see us, or call me and we’ll talk ROMAGNOLA!”
